The 2026 Michigan High School Athletic Association volleyball postseason begins this week with 19 district tournaments.
Teams across four divisions compete over the next three weeks for four state championship titles. Oakland County participants are spread throughout these brackets, with several teams holding high rankings and recent winning momentum.
The season reached this point through regular season play and conference tournaments. The district phase serves as the initial elimination round for state qualification. Host schools rotate across various venues in the county and surrounding areas.
In Division 1, Farmington Hills Mercy hosts District 25 at their home gym. The top-ranked Marlins face Redford Thurston and Livonia Stevenson in the opening round. Novi also holds a bye in this bracket. Mercy players Kate Kalczynski, Kaelyn Easton, and McKenzie Andrews provide depth that analysts view as a major advantage.
Bloomfield Hills Marian hosts District 26 in Berkley. The second-ranked Mustangs defeated top-ranked Mercy earlier in the year. Their offensive core includes Quinn Nelson, Sophia Smith, and Calli LeFevre. Marian faces Oak Park and Birmingham Groves in the opening games, with Birmingham Seaholm receiving a bye.
Clarkston hosts District 8 in Division 1. The sixth-ranked Wolves hold byes for Lake Orion, Lapeer, and Clarkston. Senior setter Marlie Smith aims to return to the state finals in her final season. Oxford plays Waterford Kettering in the opening round, a matchup that saw Oxford advance last year.
Division 2 features Detroit Country Day in District 63. The two-time defending champions face Detroit Communication Media Arts and Detroit Henry Ford in openers. Payton Woodruff leads the offense, supported by Sici Guerrant, Cornelia Friedrich, Leah Green, and Aliyah Potapenko. Detroit Lincoln-King and Detroit Cody receive byes in this bracket.
Lutheran North hosts District 62 in Macomb. The sixth-ranked Mustangs face Armada in the semifinals. Pontiac Notre Dame Prep plays Madison Heights Lamphere in the other semifinal. Notre Dame Prep is considered a strong threat in the postseason, with Nicole McDowell key to their attack.
Division 3 includes Royal Oak Shrine in District 86. The Knights host a seven-team field, including Detroit Cristo Rey and Detroit Northwestern in the openers. Detroit Academy of the Americas holds the only bye. Shrine benefits from home court familiarity against opponents less experienced in the Central High School League.
Division 4 concludes the district play with Clarkston Everest Collegiate hosting District 121. The Mountaineers face Novi Christian Academy and West Bloomfield Frankel Jewish Academy in the opening round. Ann Arbor Christian and Brighton Livingston Christian hold byes. Everest Collegiate defeated Ann Arbor Christian in five sets during the regular season, a result that shapes their bracket path.
