Michigan voters have until Sunday to cast their ballots in person ahead of the general election on Tuesday, Nov. 3. Early polling locations remain open for the final weekend of the campaign, offering residents a last chance to vote without waiting for the holiday. The state will open its polls at 7 a.m. on Election Day, with voting concluding at 8 p.m. local time.

For those who have not yet participated, the deadline to request an absentee ballot has passed. The Michigan Secretary of State encourages individuals who have already received mail ballots to drop them off in person at a designated election dropbox rather than mailing them. This method ensures the ballots are received in time to be counted. No early in-person voting locations will be open on Monday, Nov. 2, leaving Sunday as the final opportunity for early voting.

Residents who have not yet registered can still do so before the election takes place. Individuals may visit their local clerk’s office to complete registration. The clerk will require a photo ID. If a voter does not possess one, they may sign an affidavit to register. Because the registration is occurring within 14 days of the election, voters must also provide proof of residency. Those who wait until Election Day can register in person by presenting proof of residency.

Michigan law requires voters who possess a photo ID to present it at the polling place. However, the state does not require every voter to have a photo ID in order to cast a ballot. Individuals without identification may sign an affidavit and receive a ballot. Voters can verify their registration status and locate their local clerk by visiting Michigan.gov/Vote.

The ballot will include selections for several statewide offices. Voters across the state will choose candidates for governor, secretary of state, and attorney general. They will also select a U.S. Senator from Michigan. Two constitutional amendments appear on the ballot: Proposal 1, which revises the state constitution, and Proposal 2, which addresses money in politics. Districts will also vote on state senators and members of the U.S. House of Representatives.

Residents in the metro Detroit area will see additional measures on their ballots. These include a renewal of the zoo millage and a Detroit museum millage. The state's voting dashboard indicates that more than a quarter of all Michigan voters have already cast their ballots. Of the 1.8 million votes recorded, more than 1.4 million were absentee ballots. More than 430,000 voters participated in early in-person voting.

If a voter is in line when the polls close at 8 p.m., they remain eligible to cast their ballot. The state has provided these options to ensure maximum participation in the midterm election. Local officials have prepared the infrastructure to process the high volume of mail and in-person votes expected on Election Day.
