One man died and another was injured in a single-vehicle crash that brought down power lines in Montgomery County on Saturday morning. The accident occurred around 4:58 a.m. when a 1990 Honda Civic struck a utility pole near the intersection of Randolph Road and Bluhill Road.

Police and fire rescue crews found the car overturned with two adult men inside. The driver suffered life-threatening injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger was taken to a local hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

Investigators stated that the driver lost control of the vehicle for unknown reasons before hitting the pole. The impact caused power lines to fall, which forced authorities to close Randolph Road in both directions at Bluhill Road. Police asked drivers to find alternate routes while the area was secured.

The department's Collision Reconstruction Unit is leading the investigation into the cause of the crash. Officials have not yet released the driver's name while they notify his family. Police said they will provide more details as the inquiry continues.

The crash happened in Silver Spring. The specific cause of the loss of control remains under review by the reconstruction team.
