William Pierre Strong, 41, of Waldorf, died after a security guard shot him in the chest inside a local bar early Saturday morning, according to the Charles County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies arrived at The Cut Bar & Restaurant on Business Park Court at 1:46 a.m. after receiving reports of a stabbing and a shooting. Officers found Strong outside in the parking lot, where he had collapsed. He was still holding a knife. Emergency medical personnel attempted to resuscitate him but pronounced him dead at the scene.
The preliminary investigation indicates that Strong got into an altercation with another man inside the establishment. During the fight, Strong pulled out a knife and threatened the other man. A private security guard assigned to the bar tried to intervene by grabbing Strong’s hand and the weapon.
Strong stabbed the other man once in the abdomen during the struggle. As Strong moved to stab again, the security guard fired his gun. The bullet struck Strong once in the chest. The man who was stabbed was treated for injuries that investigators did not consider life-threatening.
Detectives are continuing to review the circumstances of the incident. The case will go to the Charles County State's Attorney's Office for review. Authorities have not announced any charges.
The bar is located at 2570 Business Park Court in Waldorf. Strong walked out of the building before falling in the lot. The stabbing victim was transported for medical treatment.
Detective Logsdon is leading the investigation. He can be reached at 301-609-6436. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact him.
