Residents across Illinois submitted images this week that capture the arrival of autumn. The photographs show the state’s changing scenery, from urban waterways to rural farmland.
Susan Stevens photographed an orange moon rising over Lake Michigan in Chicago. She described the color as unusual for a moon, noting it looked like a sunset to her eye.
Brittney Collins, based in New Lenox, captured two praying mantises resting on a swing set in her backyard. Collins pointed out the distinct shadow cast by one of the insects in the image.
Colleen McAbee shot a cornfield near a cemetery in Clintonville, Wisconsin. She described the scene as a sun shower at the edge of the property. Gloria Lopez also shared a photo she labeled her favorite shot of the day at Independence Grove.
Jim Kresach took a picture while playing golf at Cantigny in Wheaton during the fall season. Jeanine Moore, from Glendale Heights, photographed a squirrel eating a snack at a stoplight. Moore said she saw the animal and immediately grabbed her camera.
The submissions reflect the crisp mornings and colorful foliage that have appeared across the region. Patch accepted these images for its weekly photo roundup, which features work from various locations throughout the state.
