Nashville, Tenn. Tennessee state Sen. Brent Taylor acknowledged on Tuesday that he sent unsolicited nude photographs to multiple women. The admission comes one week before the Nov. 3 midterm elections. Taylor is seeking reelection to the state Senate and a seat in the U.S. House for Tennessee’s 9th Congressional District.
The Nashville Scene reported that sources said they received or saw the images. The publication noted that one recipient got a photo as recently as 2021. Taylor was 53 years old at that time. The senator described the actions as part of his past and labeled them youthful indiscretions.
Taylor issued a statement following the report. He said the timing signals where the campaign stands with seven days left. Taylor stated his wife is aware of the incident and that they have resolved the matter. He argued that voters in the 9th District are focused on grocery and gas prices rather than his personal history. He also named his opponent, Democrat Justin Pearson, as the primary threat in the race.
Taylor has served in the state Senate since 2023. He previously held government office starting in 1995. He is currently 53 years old. In the congressional race, he faces Democratic state Rep. Justin Pearson. Independents Dennis Clark and Michelle Head are also on the ballot for the district.
Rep. Pearson responded to Taylor’s admission on Tuesday. He stated that men of faith, particularly those in public office, should not send unsolicited nudes. Pearson noted that Taylor has been married for 30 years and professes Christian values. He called the senator’s characterization of the behavior as youthful indiscretion a mischaracterization of predatory behavior. Pearson said Tennessee deserves leaders who respect women.
The 9th Congressional District election is part of the statewide midterm vote. The Nov. 3 date marks the primary election day for this cycle. Taylor’s campaign continues with the senator actively campaigning for the congressional seat.
Taylor’s statement emphasized that he is willing to acknowledge his past. He expressed frustration that his wife must relive the situation. He positioned the race as a choice between competence and chaos. His opponents have cited the incident as evidence of a pattern of behavior that needs scrutiny.
