The Seattle Mariners exercised the $9 million club option for 2027 on closer Andres Munoz on Thursday. The decision secured the right-hander's return after a season that featured his highest earned run average since joining the organization.
Munoz finished the year with 28 saves. However, he also recorded 10 blown saves, a total that tied for the most in Major League Baseball. His 4.24 ERA in 61 relief appearances marked a sharp decline from his previous four seasons. He posted ERAs of 2.49 in 2022, 2.94 in 2023, 2.12 in 2024, and 1.73 in 2025.
The 27-year-old pitcher is a two-time All-Star who has recorded 105 saves for Seattle. He holds a 17-28 record and a 2.67 career ERA across 302 appearances. The Mariners acquired Munoz from the San Diego Padres in a trade during the 2020 season.
Seattle declined to exercise the $6.075 million option on right-hander Bryce Miller. Miller, 28, remains under club control through 2029 and is eligible for salary arbitration. He went 4-10 with a 4.17 ERA in 22 appearances this year, including 21 starts. His record over the past two seasons stands at 8-16, following a 20-15 start to his career.
The club also declined the $9 million option on outfielder Victor Robles. The 29-year-old will receive a $500,000 buyout. He batted .256 with nine RBIs and no home runs in 65 games this season. Robles joins Randy Arozarena, Taylor Ward, J.P. Crawford, and Hoby Milner as free agents. He spent the last two and a half seasons with Seattle after leaving the Washington Nationals in June 2024.
The Mariners claimed outfielder Grant McCray off waivers from the San Francisco Giants. McCray, 25, batted .143 with two home runs and four RBIs in 43 games for San Francisco this year. He has a career batting average of .170 with seven home runs and 16 RBIs in 102 games.
