Police in Louisville, Kentucky, arrested a 92-year-old man and his designated caretaker on Wednesday following a domestic violence incident at a senior living center.
Bert Morris was charged with attempted murder and first-degree strangulation. Court documents state that Louisville Metro Police officers responded to reports of abuse and found Morris pinching his wife's nose after placing a plastic bag over her face. The citation describes the bag sealing around her mouth while Morris held her nose, noting the material continued to tighten around her head.
Morris told officers his wife needed to die. The victim was transported to a local hospital in an unconscious state.
Terrence Gabie, 41, was also arrested and faces charges of knowingly abusing or neglecting an adult. Court records indicate Gabie recorded a 71-second video of the incident rather than assisting the victim. Another nurse intervened to separate Morris from his wife.
Both men pleaded not guilty in court on Thursday. Morris's bond was reduced from $250,000 to $150,000. Gabie's bond was set at $10,000, and he was released on personal recognizance. A preliminary hearing for both defendants is scheduled for November 6.
The incident occurred at an assisted living facility where Gabie served as the victim's caretaker. Morris remains the primary suspect in the attempt on his wife's life.
