Bob Harvie, a Democrat who lives in Fallsington and serves as vice-chair of the Bucks County Board of Commissioners, is running for the U.S. House seat in Pennsylvania's 1st District. The contest on Nov. 3 puts him against Republican incumbent Brian Fitzpatrick. The district covers all of Bucks County and a portion of neighboring Montgomery County.

Harvie has served as a Bucks County Commissioner for more than six years. Before that, he spent 26 years teaching public school students. He was born and raised in Bristol Borough. He holds a bachelor's degree from George Washington University and a master's from Holy Family University. He has two children.

On the cost of living, Harvie pointed to prices for groceries, housing, healthcare, childcare, and utilities. He said he would work to lower everyday costs, protect Social Security, Medicaid, and Medicare, and prevent corporations from raising prices for profit. He also said he opposes tariffs that raise costs for consumers and small businesses.

Harvie said he would support allowing Medicare to negotiate prescription drug prices and capping insulin costs. He called for investment in workforce and starter homes, more affordable childcare, and expanded access to higher education and technical training without what he called a lifetime of debt.

On foreign policy, Harvie said the war involving Iran must end and that he opposed the congressional votes for it, including votes cast by Fitzpatrick. On Ukraine, he said he backs the country's right to defend itself and that the United States should keep working with NATO allies. He also said that if elected, he would support investigating Elon Musk over his role in throttling Starlink.

On immigration, Harvie said the federal government must secure borders and stop the trafficking of drugs and people. He said enforcement should focus on dangerous criminals and genuine security threats rather than entire communities, and that agencies should run background checks, operate transparently, and respect due process.

Harvie said he has an over 95 percent bipartisan voting record as a Bucks County commissioner, has helped balance county budgets, and has worked to deliver essential services. He said he would work with any member of Congress, regardless of party, who is serious about delivering results for Pennsylvania residents.

The general election is Nov. 3. Pennsylvania's 1st Congressional District includes all of Bucks County and a portion of Montgomery County.
