Evergreen Park will allow children to collect candy from noon to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 31, as the community adjusts its schedule for the holiday falling on a weekend. Local organizers set these extended hours in response to the high participation in trunk-or-treat events held earlier in the week. The shift in date means families have a longer window to visit neighbors compared to previous years when Halloween occurred on a weekday.

The last time Halloween fell on a Saturday was in 2020, and the next occurrence will not be until 2037. This rarity has led several municipalities in the region to implement specific time slots for door-to-door visits. In Evergreen Park, the designated period begins at noon and concludes at 7 p.m. Parents planning to go out with younger children are advised to time their trips after sunset, which is expected to occur at approximately 5:45 p.m. on Saturday.

Nearby communities have established their own specific windows for the evening. Oak Lawn offers the longest duration, running from noon to 8 p.m. Orland Park follows a similar schedule, opening at 2 p.m. and closing at 8 p.m. Other nearby towns, including Alsip, Blue Island, Bridgeview, and Crestwood, have set identical hours from 3 to 7 p.m. Hickory Hills and Hometown both allow activity from 2 to 7 p.m.

Several other suburbs have adopted earlier closing times or shorter overall windows. Burbank, Midlothian, and Tinley Park will close their doors at 6 p.m., having started at 2 p.m. Oak Forest begins later than most, opening at 1 p.m. and closing at 7 p.m. Chicago Ridge residents have a shorter window, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Palos Hills also ends at 7:30 p.m., starting at 3 p.m.

Justice will see the earliest conclusion of trick-or-treating among the listed towns, ending at 5 p.m. after starting at noon. Palos Park has not set a specific time for the event. The variation in hours across the area requires families to check local guidelines if they plan to visit relatives or friends in different municipalities. The extended availability in Evergreen Park aims to accommodate the large number of children expected to be on the streets.

The specific hours for Evergreen Park reflect a local effort to manage the flow of visitors during a weekend holiday. The noon to 7 p.m. slot provides ample time for both afternoon and evening visits. Residents in neighboring areas such as Palos Heights and Worth have similar afternoon starts, with Palos Heights running from 2 to 7 p.m. and Worth from 2 to 7 p.m. These coordinated schedules help organize the evening activity across the central Illinois region.
