Chicago Heights police are searching for witnesses to a fatal shooting that occurred on Halloween night. Officers responded to a call in the 400 block of W. 14th Street and found a man with gunshot wounds.
The incident began at approximately 9:24 p.m. on Oct. 31 when a Sound Thinking system detected gunfire. Chicago Heights Fire Department personnel transported the victim to a local hospital. Doctors pronounced him dead upon arrival. The victim's identity had not been released as of late Sunday morning.
Detectives are treating the death as a homicide. They have requested assistance from the Illinois State Police and the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force to help solve the case.
Police are asking people in the area to review their security cameras. Residents and business owners should look for activity between 9:15 and 9:30 p.m. on Sunday. Officials hope the footage will reveal details about the shooter or the victim's movements before he was shot.
The department is asking the public to share any relevant video clips with investigators. This request follows the initial response to the automated alert that sent units to the scene.
