Twenty-five buses, ambulances, and other vehicles were staged in Armyansk on Thursday for an aid mission scheduled for Friday. The convoy is positioned to deliver supplies to Oleshky, a city in southern Ukraine that has faced severe shortages of food and medicine.

Dmytro Lubinets, Ukraine's ombudsman and chief negotiator, confirmed the deployment. He stated that the primary objective is to ensure the aid reaches every resident who needs it. Lubinets noted that the team is giving particular attention to elderly citizens and people with disabilities.

The relief effort is taking place under a localized ceasefire. U.S. First Lady Melania Trump brokered the truce after leading negotiations between Lubinets and Yana Lantratova, his Russian counterpart. The agreement allows the convoy to move between the staging area in Armyansk and Oleshky, a distance of approximately 53 miles.

Oleshky is located just inside Russian-occupied territory in the Kherson region. Residents there became stranded earlier due to heavy fighting and roads contaminated with mines. The isolation left the population without essential supplies.

Moscow and Kyiv have observed the truce around the city since Tuesday. The pause in fighting is specific to the relief operation. Elsewhere, the two sides continue to engage in the war that began with Russia's full-scale invasion more than four and a half years ago. Previous ceasefire attempts in the region have either failed or collapsed quickly.

The convoy remains ready in Armyansk, awaiting the start of the mission later Friday. The operation marks a new attempt to sustain the fragile pause in fighting for logistical purposes.
