Residents of the Lower Hudson Valley can sign up for several volunteer roles this week that involve manual labor, administrative work, or event support. Organizations in Rockland County are seeking help with everything from repairing broken household items to stocking food pantry shelves.
The Rockland Conservation Service Corps is hosting a Repair Cafe in Pomona on November 8 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event pairs handy volunteers with neighbors to fix broken items at no cost to the owner. The group is specifically looking for individuals who are comfortable with tools and want to keep items out of landfills. Spanish speakers and those willing to provide general event support are encouraged to apply.
In Nyack, St. John Deliverance Tabernacle needs volunteers for its food pantry on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Tasks include sorting and organizing donated food, stocking shelves, packing grocery bags, and unloading deliveries. Volunteers will also help distribute food to community members, greet clients, and maintain the pantry’s inventory and cleanliness.
NAMI Rockland is seeking ongoing administrative support in Orangeburg. This role requires consistent data entry and clerical work on a weekly basis with a flexible schedule. The organization prefers volunteers who can commit to at least two days per month, though weekly participation is preferred. Volunteers will receive training and support for the position.
The Yonkers Film Festival, now in its 14th year, is recruiting volunteers ages 16 and older for its event running from November 6 to November 15. The festival takes over the downtown Yonkers waterfront area. Volunteers will serve as ushers and greeters, assist with setup and breakdown, and help with photography, videography, and marketing.
Participants in the Yonkers Film Festival will receive a T-shirt, a meal, and snacks. They will also have access to screenings, workshops, and parties during their off-shift time. Parties are restricted to those aged 21 and older.
