5K Run to Fund UAB Student Medical Clinic Starts at Crestline

Equal Access Birmingham will hold its 11th annual Heart + Sole 5K on Saturday, Nov. 7. The event is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. at Crestline Elementary School, located at 3785 West Jackson Blvd.

The race will start and finish in the school parking lot. Check-in opens at 8 a.m., and Battle Republic Fitness Studio will lead a pre-race warm-up while providing free class passes. A DJ and a costume contest with prizes will take place during the morning activities.

Equal Access Birmingham operates as a free clinic run by students from the UAB Heersink School of Medicine. The group staffs primary care clinics twice a week. It also offers specialty clinics in reproductive health, mental health, dermatology, ophthalmology, optometry, and urology.

All proceeds from the race will support the organization through the EAB Gift and Endowment Fund. These funds help provide free medical care, medications, and health education to people who are uninsured or underinsured.

Registration costs $35 for most participants. UAB Heersink School of Medicine students and residents pay $25. Every registrant receives a race T-shirt. Online registration stays open through Nov. 6. Bib and T-shirt pickup is available Friday, Nov. 6, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Volker Hall, 1670 University Blvd. Race-day pickup begins at 8 a.m.

An afterparty is planned at Tin Roof from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. following the race. People can visit runsignup.com/Race/AL/MountainBrook/HeartSole5KEAB to register or find more information.
